Referendum, when Salvini invited not to abstain: "Those who vote choose, those who don't vote give up"

Matteo Salvini has made it known that he will not vote in the referendums of June 8 and 9. While only three years ago, in 2022, he claimed that "those who vote choose, those who do not vote give up" referring to the consultation on justice for which he went to the polls.
The Northern League minister said today: "I will not go to vote, Italians are mature and everyone is free to go and vote yes or go and vote no. I see my children very little, and so on June 8 and 9 I plan to spend a lot of time with my children, or even at home".
In 2022, however, when there were referendums on justice, he published a video on social media in which he explained that he had just gone to the polls: "Done, I exercised my right and my duty to vote - said Salvini -. Please do not let yourselves be robbed of the possibility of changing justice and your extraordinary country by not hiding this right to vote in referendums. From this morning, you are the ones who defeat this wall of silence, this theft of democracy. Those who vote choose, those who do not vote give up".
The minister himself recalled his position: "Referendums are a political weapon: as in the past someone invited not to vote on referendums, I think of the Justice that I cared about and that the League cared about, I do not agree with the contents of these referendums, much less the gift of early citizenship, given that Italy is the European country that gives the most citizenships per year, and therefore I expect to have time to spend with my children on June 8 and 9. In a democracy this is allowed".
